The specialized DH market has some decent names available as long as you don’t mind age being a downside consideration.

Vladimir Guerrero is the big prize right now, but he comes with the danger of recurring injuries popping up. His bat speed has slowed a bit, but he can still be a factor in a lineup that will not lean on him as the sole big bat. The Texas Rangers can be a great fit for him. I would throw Carlos Delgado’s name out there as a DH candidate as well. From there, you have other names that can be a factor. They include Garrett Anderson, Jack Cust, Marcus Thames as well as Gary Sheffield. There are other guys out there like Jim Thome who can be a decent bat as well. I’m not sure the market is that deep once Vlad and a couple of the names I mentioned above come off the board. Unfortunately lots of the names mentioned and others that are on the list, but we didn’t mention are pushing the mid 30’s and up. There will likely be a bevy of one-year deals to go around for those who are smart enough to not hesitate on an offer.
