ESPN’s Peter Gammons reports that Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedrioa is interested in moving back to shortstop.
Since the free agent market at shortstop is very thin, the Red Sox have approached their current second baseman and 2008 AL MVP Dustin Pedrioa about moving to short. Pedrioa, a former All-American at shortstop in college, would be fine with that move, he says.
“When the idea of moving back to shortstop was floated to me, I welcomed it,” says Pedroia.
It certainly would be easier for the Sox to find a second baseman that a shortstop this offseason — free agents like Mark DeRosa, Chone Figgins, Placido Polanco, and Orlando Hudson could all do a good job at second in Boston in 2010.
