The Yankees sound as if they are not going to be bullied into a long term deal by Scott Boras and Johnny Damon.

The team is considering other options that can make up for the loss of Damon. Chone Figgins is a good possibility with his age, speed and versatility. But I doubt the Yankees will move Jeter from the leadoff spot, but it is a possibility. The other two names mentioned by FoxSports.com are Mike Cameron and Curtis Granderson. They are definite possibilities, but Yankee fans would probably prefer Damon over those two and possibly Figgins as well.

More on the Damon situation here.

If the Yankees can't re-sign Damon, then how about Bay or figgins, Granderson I see is a better fit but I'm no expert. What about loooking from within? Is there a left fielder in the minors about ready to dawn the big league uniform and prove to the world he is ready and deserve a shot?
  • Boy, Jason Bay would be a real kick in the pants to Boston if the Yankees could land him. I'm sure he'd hit plenty of bombs in that sandbox in New York. Granderson would be a nice addition also, but I'm not sure if the Yankees could offer what the Tigers would want for him in terms of prospects.

Austin Jackson (known as A-Jax in the Yankees organization) is the Yanks' big stud outfield prospect. He hit .300 in AAA last year, has decent speed, and is being groomed into a good center fielder. I don't expect to see him in a Yankee uniform next year, but 2011 is a good possibility.
  • Hi Clay, Wang is likely not going to be back if we had to venture a guess. The Yankees have really soured on him.

What if the Yankees get Roy Halladay, John Lackey, and Jason Bay. Could they need the names I just wrote down? Could they afford them? Will they be a force to reckoned with in 2010?
  • Do they need those guys? No. But the Yankees can absolutely afford anyone they want to get. However, they're reportedly under pressure from investors to reduce their payroll this season, as are most other teams near the top of the salary charts. And yes, they'll be a force to be reckoned with again in 2010, since they have a team chock full of All Star-level talent.
