Yankees blog PinstripeAlley.com is talking about Derek’s Jeter contract situation, which currently has one more year left on it before Jeter is eligible to become a free agent following next season.
The Yankees are likely going to keep Jeter for another 3 years at least, but do want to save some salary for what can be one of the best free agent classes we have seen in a while next winter (Josh Beckett, Cliff Lee, Joe Maeur, Jason Werth).
If you take the poll on the site, you will see that Yankee fans are surprisingly not concerned about getting a deal done for the Captain at this time. Could fans and management be risking some hurt feelings with Jeter? We will likely not know until next offseason.
