ESPN’s Gordon Edes explains why Boston may have no choice but to keep Mike Lowell for one more year and pay his $12 million salary.

Lowell did produce last year, despite only playing 119 games. He finished with a .290 batting average, along with 17 HR/75 RBI. The ideal plan for the Red Sox would be to shift Kevin Youkilis to third base and acquire Adrian Gonzalez. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, that plan isn’t an easy one to pull off as the San Diego Padres do not have to move Gonzalez, who will be making only $11 million over the next two years.

Check out what the other options are that Gordon points out and why it may be likely that Red Sox fans are going to see Mike Lowell starting for them come opening day.
