Matt Eddy at Baseball America reports in his weekly Minor League Transactions article that the Phillies have signed shortstop Wilson Valdez and outfielder DeWayne Wise to minor league contracts.
Valdez, 31, was a backup infielder for the Mets in 2009, batting .256 in 41 games.
Wise, who turns 32 in February, is best known for his stellar defensive play in center field that saved Mark Buehrle’s perfect game in the ninth inning back in July. He’s a career .216 hitter, but his phenomenal defense is enough to keep him around the league for a while longer.
