In this overnight edition of HotStove.com’s blog/notes watch, a look ahead at the Braves bullpen, Sheffield in 2010, Reds loaded farm system, Contreras possibly playing in Japan, Tigers’ Mess, and lots more!
- Atlanta Braves Blog, TalkingChop.com gives us a look at who will be Atlanta’s closers in the next couple of years.
The team will likely need these pitchers up sooner than later, especially with the pending loss of Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano.
- John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer says the Reds farm system is loaded with talent.
It’s too bad the team is looking to possibly move some core players like Brandon Phillips. This makes a good farm system almost meaningless if you let guys go just as they are hitting their prime.
- Mets Blog, MikesMets.com breaks down some good strategies for the team’s offseason focus.
I like his take on bringing in more lefty starters, especially a Randy Wolf. I do believe the Mets should be more aggressive with bringing in better bats, and don’t agree with the names Mike mentions as to keeping.
- Matthew Cerrone’s MetsBlog.com takes a look at the Met changes announced for CitiField in 2010.
I tweeted yesterday that the Mets should have had these changes in place for the grand opening. How much did they pay a consulting agency to come up with this amazing concept, more Met colors and history!
- NPBTracker.com has a story on Jose Contreras possibly considering a move to Japan.
This is a bizarre scenario as Contreras showed us some good stuff out of the bullpen late in the season, playoffs. He should consider making his case as a bullpen option at this stage of his career. I also believe Chan Ho Park fits in the same category, which is the bullpen as well.
- Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe tells us what Gary Sheffield has planned for 2010.
Like him or not, Shef still can swing the lumber, but not as an everyday player of course.
– Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press explains how the Tigers got to the current mess they are in.
Getting Miguel Cabrera was a good move. Giving Maglio Ordonez the money they did was bad. Trading for Aubrey Huff last this summer was also bad as well.
- Paul Hoynes of the Plains Dealer answers some Cleveland Indians questions from the fans.
The fact this team had both C.C. Sabbathia and Cliff Lee and still have nothing in the majors to show yet is horrendous.
