Elena Gustines and Jay Schreiber, writers of the the New York Times “Bats” blog are making the case for the Mets to consider taking Vernon Wells and his $107 million contract to help them land pitching stud Roy Halladay.
The Blue Jays had signed Wells to the mega-deal after Wells’ 2006 breakout season in which he hit .303 with 32 home runs and 106 runs batted in. Wells would play left field for the Mets in any trade scenario.
The post really didn’t mention what would happen with Halladay after next season if he did accept the trade to the Mets. I’m not sure I see the rationale of taking on such a terrible contract with Wells.
