Anthony McCarron and Bill Madden believe the Yankees will be a factor regarding the Roy Halladay trade saga.

Following the news that Halladay would waive his no-trade clause to play for the Yankees, there has been much speculation on what type of deal it would take to acquire the right-handed pitching ace.

Now comes some rumblings that the Red Sox organization may be leaning toward a package deal for Adrian Gonzalez or Hanley Ramirez instead. Sources say General Manager Theo Epstein would rather use the Red Sox’s abundance of lower-level prospects to pursue a deal with the Padres for slugging first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, or with the Marlins for former Red Sox farmhand Hanley Ramirez, the star shortstop.

This would leave the Yankees as the likely destination for the Yankees, unless other teams step up their pursuit (Mets, Dodgers, Angels?). If the Yankees land Halladay, the road through the World Series, will likely remain through the Bronx for the next several years.
