Washington Nationals Blog FederalBaseball.com is contemplating the idea of losing a second round pick if the Nationals can sign Billy Wagner.
It was confirmed yesterday by Billy Wagner’s agent yesterday that the Nationals are one of the teams pursuing the services of veteran lefty closer Billy Wagner.
The Nationals would not be forfeiting a first round pick, even though Wagner is a Type A player, because of the Nationals picking first in the 2010 draft. Teams do not have to forfeit a first round pick, if it is in the top 15 of the draft.
The bigger question to ask is would Billy Wagner go play for the Nationals at this point of his career. I would say probably not, but money can make a difference as well.
