Seth Livingstone of the USA Today breaks down the Mets roster and takes a look at the team’s biggest needs, and there are many.
With the highest payroll in the National League, the Mets proceeded to finish last in the NL with 95 home runs, compile a pitching staff’s 4.45 ERA, whichwas 12th in the league, and pitchers walked 616, the second most among major league staffs.
What went wrong? Injuries to the team’s core players like Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, David Wright, Carlos Delgado, Oliver Perez, and John Maine.
I think we will likely see a quick hook of manager Jerry Manuel if the team starts slow out of the gates. You can expect to hear “We Want Bobby” chants to fill Citi Field, referring to former Mets manager Bobby Valentine, who is currently available to manage. What will the team need to do to turn things around this offseason? Check out Seth’s post here.
