Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News believes the Mets may pursue outfielder Jose Guillen of the Kansas City Royals if they fail to land a big name such as Jason Bay for their left field needs.
Guillen was hampered by injuries last year, playing in just 81 games, hitting 242 with nine homers and 40 RBI in 281 at-bats. He is due to make $12 million in 2010, of which it is believed the Royals would be kicking in some of the money to unload the veteran outfielder.
If the Mets turn in this direction, the fans would go ballistic. Getting Jeff Franceour from the Braves won the fans over and was perhaps worthy of a project. To his credit, he did play well after going over to the Mets. But to add another “rejuvenation” player to the starting lineup would be absurd. The message would be loud and clear to the fans, “here comes the Yankee shadows, learn to live in them”!
More on this potential Mets “solution” here.
