Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News is reporting that Johnny Damon has told friends that he would take a shorter deal from the Yankees than he would elsewhere.
Damon’s preference is to remain with the Yankees, and while he has made that wish well-known, sources close to the veteran say he isn’t about to give the Bombers a big discount to stay in pinstripes.
The Yankees will likely bring Andy Pettitte and Hideki Matsui back if they stick to 1-year deal demands. Damon will definitely listen to other offers, and he is not afraid to make a move. His agent just needs to solicit an offer from another team to get the Yankees to bite.
More on Damon and the Yankees here.
