Mike DiGiovanna and Dylan Hernandez of the LATimes.com take a look at what the offseason should be like for the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Angels are certainly better than the Dodgers from a flexibility standpoint as the team is shedding $51 million from their payroll, as Vladimir Guerrero, Kelvim Escobar, John Lackey, Bobby Abreu, Chone Figgins, Darren Oliver and Robb Quinlan headed for free agency. The team could could look to retain some of the Angels’ highly coveted free agents such as Lackey and Figgins, or go after a big bat such as Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. Another recently-rumored idea is to trade for a high-priced ace such as Toronto’s Roy Halladay.
As for the Dodgers, the team’s soaring salaries of young players will likely prevent them from spending the kind of money they did last fall, inking Manny Ramirez to a two-year, $45-million deal and Rafael Furcal to a three-year, $30-million contract.
